October is Pastor Appreciation Month.  Please express your thankfulness and acts of love by showing Pastor Dave your appreciation.

Today, available on the credenza are Church Officer Nomination forms. Please consider who among our members you might nominate for service, or you may nominate yourself. Completed forms may be placed in the collection plate or turned into the office.

Today is the last day to purchase a First Presbyterian Church tee shirt. Emily Johnson will be in the Parlour for more details.

Your email address on file at the church will be printed in the new pictorial directory that is now in process.  If you do not want your email address printed or if there has been any changes made recently to your address, phone number or email address; please contact the church office this week at 252-6662.

Drumm Farm is in need of volunteers to help staff the annual kindergartner visit from Independence School District.  They would like each volunteer to commit to at least 2 outings.  The dates for their events are: Tuesday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 20. Our partner school, Procter Elementary, will be sending their students on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Each day commitment is from 9 AM to 12 noon.  Please contact Janet Gibbs at janet.gibbs@drummfarm.org as soon as possible for further information.

Heartland Presbytery’s next mission trip to Guatemala is planned for January 18 – January 25, 2018. The focus of the trip would be relationship-building with our Christian brothers and sisters in the Maya Quiche’ Presbytery. Cost is $1,750 and is all-inclusive of air and ground travel, meals and lodging. The final deadline is October 20, 2017. All-Church LOGOS Halloween Party is Wednesday, October 25th.  Dinner starts at 6 pm and cost $3/person.  If you would like to join us, please let us know so we have enough food.  Otherwise, the Halloween costume contest will begin at 6:30 pm followed by games and activities.  Sign-up is on the credenza, in the Parlour.  If you have questions, please contact Bonnie Ratcliff at ratcliff0615@gmail.com or Jill Esry at justjillesry@gmail.com.

The Lions Club will be having their Annual Pancake Fundraiser at Westminster Hall, Saturday, Oct. 28, from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Eastview Lions Club serve the vision-impaired, provide vision exams and eyeglasses to schoolchildren, collect used eyeglasses and do many other projects in Independence. Cost is $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Please see Jan Spencer for more information or call 816-260-7631.

Join us for the Annual Trunk or Treat! Our church-sponsored Cub Scout Pack 4282 will be assisting the Fellowship Committee beginning at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 28 following the 10:00 a.m. Independence Halloween parade.  Decorate the trunk/bed of your car/truck, and treat the kids with games or candy and come in costume.  Bring your candy/small prize donations to church and/or if you would like to help in any way, please contact Mary Aslakson at 816-373-3617.

Operation Christmas Child:  Please consider providing a box for our Operation Christmas Child mission project. There are instructions in the Parlour along with empty boxes.  Feel free to take one of the pre-wrapped boxes to fill with treats for a child that may not otherwise receive a Christmas present. Christian Education and Missions Committees sponsors this project. National Collection week begins November 13.
